Our Vacation Day 2 Part 2

Filed under: About Me — sassybug @ 8:30 pm

So after walnut Canyon it was back into Flagstaff from the West and back out through the north

18 miles to the north we catch our first glimpse of Sunset Crater.

196

Then it was a check in at the visitors center where we got to create our own earthquakes on a sesimometer (how cook is that). Then a happy little drive until my husband says, “Oh, Wow” and I look out the window to mu left and I think I let some bad words fly. The lava flows were about 10 feet high and everywhere!

Our Vacation Day 2 Part 1

Okay so we stayed in Flagstaff. We got up Sunday morning and drove just a few miles to Walnut Canyon. If you ever go here be prepared for the stairs. I think I would have been okay but 240 stairs down all at once then back up all at once, boy were my legs wiggley!

Here we go…

Our first look at the Canyon

1201

In the middle of this one there is a dark rock to to the left and up a little are some ruins built into the canyon walls.

1211

A Prickly Pear Cactus

122

Right in the middle…ruins

125

These were ruins but they were destroyed by visitors before this was a national monument… how sad… all the more reason to obey the rules and stay on the paths and to never touch anything…

130

a picture of the treasure hunters

152

More that wasn’t completly destroyed (BTW – I know that man in the picture, I think I married him)

155

 Cool trees in the canyon…

More ruins…

and to think that was what we did before noon. Stay tuned for more.

BTW- my camera date is wrong on all of my pictures. I was in a hurry to capture the sights and didn’t reset.

Our Vacation Day 1

Filed under: About Me — sassybug @ 6:28 pm

Okay so I haven’t posted lately, SPRING BREAK! was upon me. My husband and I took a little trip to Arizona. I thought I would post a few pictures (okay maybe a lot as I take pictures of everything).

Day one found us leaving our home, not to early but early enough.

We saw some old volcanic necks along the way.

004

006

Our first stop was the Painted Desert.

001

003

Then there was an old car sitting along old Route 66.

(By the way that is my toe – yahoo a picture of sassybug)

014

016

021

Then we stopped at Puerco Pueblo, where there was this sign talking about the Harvey company doing car tours of Painted Desert and Petrified National Forest.

I personally think it looks like the same car. you can decide for yourself.

024

The ruins and petroglyphs (my favorite – I get so excited) at Puerco Pueblo.

0271

029

037

Then my favorite, newspaper rock!

050

Then a petrified log bridge. There aren’t many pictures of Petrified Forest as we went there a few years back and forgot the digital camera.

052

Cool Tree

055

…and that ends day 1.

More later…

What Day Is Today? 3/20

Today is my favorite day of the year, The First Day of Spring! aka Snowman Burning Day!

We are just like everyone else…

Filed under: Uncategorized — sassybug @ 9:51 am

… our school just like all others, has a problem with grafitti. Yesterday I went to the restroom during my first hour and notice that in addition to the gang sign on the door (that has been there for a wee) that someone added some beautiful swear words.

I finally decided that I had had enough. I know that the custodians go through those same doors, several times a day. I emailed the principals assistant and told her what I had seen.

When I went back to the bathroom at lunch, someone had painted over the graffiti. I know that sometimes this needs to happen, you can’t always wash the graffiti off the walls. They didn’t even try to wsh the graffiti off, instead it looks like someone took a brush, soaked it in paint, and pressed it against the door. There was no attempt made to even it out, make it look like it had never happened.

The fact that our custodians can’t paint isn’t anything new, a few years ago they painted the hallways with flat paint, which is no big deal accept they were covering gloss paint and decided to only paint halfway up  the wall! The painting bugs me something awful but I can get over it.

The thing I can’t get over is the fact that the gang sign was written in pencil. Rather then try to clean something, they just slap paint up on the walls. They do the same thing in the bathroom stalls where the walls are non-porous so they wash off pretty easily. They just slap up the paint, which then the students carve off their messages in (paint doesn’t stick well to plastic, duh!)

Our cleaning people just don’t clean, and then people wonder why the buildings have mice and roaches and isn’t that against some law to have vermin in a school? My portable doesn’t have these things and I believe it is because I keep it clean.I clean my desks, I pick up the floor (and I would vacuum but they take the dirt cans out of the vacuums that they leave in the classrooms so we don’t vacuum).

The man who cleans my room takes the trash bag out of the can, ties it up and then sets it in a desk chair where it leaks all of the goo from the kids drink cups! So daily I have a student that has to come to me and get a wipe-y so they don’t get glued to their chair.

If your job is to clean things, then by gosh, CLEAN SOMETHING! Get a glove, a bucket of water, and a rag an WOW would you be shocked at what you can do. Imagine what might happen if you put a cleaning agent in that bucket with your water!

How many of you have watched “Under the Tuscan Sun” ?

Do you remember the part where she is remodeling and she finds that  the  pipes are wrong and that there is hot water in the toilet. Then her friend tells her that it is great if you want to give you butt a facial. I love that part of the movie, it makes me laugh.

I never thought that something like that would happen to me, but it has. The staff restroom that I use most often (the stink, stank, stunk one) has this problem. When you flush the bowl is just filled with bubbles, like wen you fill a glass with hot water. No I am not sure that the toilet has hot water in the bowl. I can’t say that the bubbles are cause by heat. I could do an experiment to find out but that would require e to place some body part into the bowl. I don’t like to put any parts in the potty at home so I am surely not going take up the habit at work.

But every time I flush, I see the bowl of bubbles and I think, “it’s great if you want to give your butt a facial” and I smile.
